Learn how we devised an innovative app that tracks trainee pulmonary specialists’ progress, saving time and improving communication.

Challenge

University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) was struggling to track the progress of trainee pulmonary specialists due to outdated technology and admin systems. They relied on spreadsheets to record case data for multiple medical procedures, carried out across numerous locations.

Approach

We took time to understand user needs and analysed the best way to transform trainee progress tracking. The solution? We created EPassport, an advanced, mobile and desktop-friendly cloud based logbook. Each trainee gets a profile they can access from anywhere. We designed a user-friendly app dashboard that made logging and reporting simple, allowing for speedy information-sharing and better review tools for assessment.

Results

Designed to operate at local and national level, the EPassport system is easily configured to suit the specific requirements of different medical fields or workflows. Trainee records and qualification certificates are easily transferred between hospitals. For the trainee pulmonary specialists at UHSM, there’s no looking back. A self-registration feature enabled fast uptake and within four months of going live, UHSM reported significant time-savings and positive feedback from both the trainees and their supervisors.
