Empowering through community: Education and disease awareness

COPD remains a major health burden on the highly regulated NHS. Despite active online engagement, patients often lack awareness of treatment options like the Zephyr Valve.
Challenge
The challenge was to compliantly raise awareness, close knowledge gaps, and capture insights into patient needs, behaviours and access barriers, all whilst engaging an informed but under-supported audience.
Approach
We launched a compliant, moderated Facebook group to align with the digital behaviours of the COPD community and provide a trusted space for education and peer support. Our strategy focused on:
Engagement management: Maintained consistent, accurate, and empathetic responses through a structured moderation framework.
Community activation: Scaled via targeted social campaigns.
Content planning: Delivered a mix of educational content, moderated discussions, and approved messaging.

Results
Activated a compliant online community of 60,000+ engaged COPD patients, fostering ongoing education..
Drove 12,000+ self-test completions, enabling patients to better understand their condition and eligibility for advanced treatment options like the Zephyr Valve.
Generated actionable patient insights on information needs, treatment awareness, and barriers to access, supporting future engagement and service design.
